2015 badge scheme is best yet

Newmarket RM scenicThe 2015 Racecourse Badge Scheme for Owners is the most extensive yet, with more fixtures than ever before included.

More than 1,300 race meetings – 90 per cent of the total fixture list - will offer free admittance to qualifying members of the Racehorse Owners Association.

This includes every meeting at 37 of the 59 racecourses, an increase of three on 2014, with the tracks at Ayr, Carlisle and Market Rasen providing the extra boost.

Many top race-days feature, including: the St Leger Festival at Doncaster; Scottish and Welsh Grand National days at Ayr and Chepstow; Future Champions, Cambridgeshire and Cesarewitch days at Newmarket (pictured); Lockinge day at Newbury; the Northumberland Plate festival at Newcastle; and Ayr Gold Cup day.

ROA members on the scheme are entitled to one complimentary badge on days when they don’t have a runner. In addition, Newbury, Epsom Downs and Sandown Park are providing two admittance badges at each participating fixture.

Richard Wayman, ROA Chief Executive, said: “The Racecourse Badge Scheme for Owners is one of our most popular member benefits. Racehorse owners are the single largest contributors to the funding of British Racing and, by providing free entry to the vast majority of fixtures, this Scheme is an important way of demonstrating how much the sport values their support.

“It's always pleasing that year-on-year both the quality and quantity of the allocated fixtures grows, and the ROA would like to thank the racecourses and the RCA for their participation in the scheme.”

The ROA issues a monthly email bulletin of upcoming fixtures in the scheme. Qualifying members can also download the participating fixtures onto their smartphone or tablet by visiting the website.

To be eligible to join the Racecourse Badge Scheme for Owners, ROA members must be a registered owner with Weatherbys and own at least 50% of a horse in full training - or shares equivalent to - or be one of two nominated partners in a racing partnership.

RCA Chief Executive Stephen Atkin said: “We are delighted to be able to once again join with the ROA to offer the Racecourse Badge Scheme for Owners in 2015, which will allow qualifying ROA members access to over 1,300 fixtures, covering every British racecourse. Racecourses understand the importance of the significant investments that Owners make to our sport, and this Badge Scheme is an important way of recognising that.

“Our thanks to the generosity of the racecourses for this offer, 37 of whom are making all of their 2015 fixtures eligible under the Scheme, an increase from the 34 who did so this year.”
