Ownership Day at Newton Abbot

Newton Aboot RacecourseFollowing a successful premiere at Pontefract Races in April, The Racehorse Owners Association continues its series of nine Industry Ownership Days across the UK in with Newton Abbot racecourse on Wednesday May 15. The days are intended to both recognise existing owners and to promote the thrill and accessibility of ownership to potential racehorse owners.

For ROA members the Industry Ownership Days incorporate the popular regional meetings which include lunch and an update from the ROA Chief Executive as well as an opportunity to use the racecourse facility for the day. To allow more members to enjoy the Industry Ownership Days, racecourses will also offer complimentary admission to all ROA members.

The ROA will once again have staff and board members in attendance, with the ROA gazebo proving a popular destination for both owners and non-owners with questions on racehorse ownership.

Representatives from Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) will be on hand to promote success stories of numerous ex-racehorses and the many different options that are available to Thoroughbreds once their career in racing is over.

The ROA will sponsor across the day’s racecard and members will be invited to take part in interviews about their experiences and numerous post-race presentations for winners, including the ROA Owners Jackpot race which gives a £2,000 bonus to the winning horse if it’s majority-owned by ROA members. There are also extra £500 bonuses if the winning horse’s trainer is an ROA member and also if the breeder is an ROA member.

Invitations for the regional meeting and lunch have been posted to owners who live locally, and the event is fully booked. Free racecourse entry for ROA members on the Industry Ownership Days is available through the ROA website or by calling 0207 152 0200.

ROA Chief Executive Charlie Liverton said: “The inaugural Industry Ownership Day at Pontefract was a tremendous success and we were delighted at the response we received from the racecourse, racegoers and, of course, our members. Being able to inform many racing enthusiasts about the accessibility and overall fantastic experience of racehorse ownership through interviews with our members on the day was a real positive. Our gazebo saw a steady stream of enquiries, and the opening of

Pontefract’s newly refurbished Owners & Trainers bar by ROA President Nicholas Cooper, was another highlight of the day.

“We’re looking forward to taking the Industry Ownership Day to the West country which is an important member conurbation. On May 15 we hope members and non-members alike will join us for great day of summer jump racing and a celebration of ownership.”
