Raceday Curtailment Scheme has record year
There were a rash of abandoned races over the turn of the year due to the inclement weather. These races were at the end of the card and therefore qualified for the ROA's Raceday Curtailment Scheme payment.
This scheme provides a payment of £100 to the owner and member who owns at least 51% of a horse that had been due to run at a meeting that is abandoned after at least the first race has taken place.
The scheme has been set up in collaboration with Weatherbys Hamilton, insurance brokers for the ROA's Third Party Liability Insurance scheme.
Last year saw a record number of occasions the scheme was triggered, since we introduced this as a benefit in 2013. There were 144 horses qualified during 2019 to receive payments, with £14,400 paid out to their owners.
There were four instances of payouts over the Festive period. Let's hope for better weather soon!
