BHA REGISTRATION FEES - DISCOUNTS

ROA members receive a 20% discount on many BHA re-registration fees.

  • If you are a sole owner, the discount will be applied to all relevant re-registration fees as listed below.
  • If you are involved in a Club or a Syndicate, then the majority of the club/syndicate managers will need to be members of the ROA in order for the discounts to be applied.
  • If you are involved in a partnership then the discount is applied according to how the charges to the partnership are managed.

A new owner fee structure was introduced on 1 October 2025, designed around four simple charging categories:

1. JOINING

A simple joining fee will be charged once, upfront, to any new owner. To reduce barriers to entry, all new owner joining fees will be significantly reduced compared with the current registration charges, with individual owners charged no fee at all.

New Joining Fees 2025

Company

Partnership

£225

Syndicate

£325

Club

£325

All fees are ex VAT

ROA discounts will continue to apply to all fees as is the case now except the joining fees.

2. ANNUAL

An annual membership charge will be introduced to replace the majority of recurring fees, including Authority to Act, VAT Administration and Sponsorship. For owners who have not had a runner in the previous year their annual membership renewal will be free of charge.

All Owners will have their registration renewed annually. This will be on the anniversary of their initial registration (should you have registered after October 2025) or their fee alignment date (which can be found by looking on the Racing Admin system).

The annual subscription fee charged to owners will depend on whether they are active or dormant. This status is based on whether they have had a runner in the previous 12 months.

A 20% discount for ROA members will continue to be applied to owners’ annual fees.

The annual subscription fees are below:

Ownership Type

Annual fee

Active

£135

  • Combines annual Authority to Act, VAT, sponsorship and lease fees
  • Any owner has had a runner in the previous 12 months
  • ROA 20% discount applies

Dormant

£0

  • Any owner who has not had a runner in the previous 12 months

Owners should be aware that, in the case of a Partnership, Syndicate or Racing Club, the entity will be charged the subscription fee. As registered Owners, any Partners, Syndicators and Racing Club Managers will also have their registration as an Owner renewed annually. However, if they have not had a runner in their own name, they will be considered a dormant owner.

3. ADDITIONAL

A small number of fees will remain outside the annual subscription to allow flexibility for Owners. These will include registrations such as Colours and Names. A 20% discount for ROA members will continue to be applied to owners’ additional fees.

4. RACE

As is currently the case, for each entry made in an owner’s name, a small entry handling fee will be charged. Owners are charged a handling fee whenever they make an entry. This is in addition to any entry fee that may be charged by the racecourse. The entry handling fee is £28.08. Should a horse be eliminated, the entry handling fee is refunded to the Owner.

Deregistration

Owners can deregister at any point once they have no horses in training and no outstanding engagements by emailing [email protected]

By deregistering all related registrations including sponsorships, permissions and VAT authorisation will be cancelled. Should an Owner wish to return to the sport after deregistration, they will be required to rejoin, re-register and pay any required joining fee. Owners deregistering within 14 days of paying their annual subscription fee may be able to claim a refund and should contact [email protected].

Owners should be aware that should they not have a horse in training (either in their own name, or as part Partnership, Syndicate or Racing Club) for a period of 24 consecutive months, their ownership will be cancelled and they will be required to rejoin.

Fees that are charged to a partnership account

The relevant proportion of the discount is applied based on the number of owners who are ROA members:

  • If the fee is a horse-specific one, e.g. naming, then this is done based on the percentage of the horse owned by ROA members.  For example, if 75% of the horse is owned by ROA members then 75% of the discount will be applied.
  • If the fee is non horse-specific e.g. registration of colours, then this is done on the number of partners who are ROA members.  For example, if 2 out of the 3 partners are ROA members, then 66% of the discount will be applied, regardless of the actual ownership percentages.
  • Please note that an Authority to Act is registered to an individual and not an ownership entity; therefore, this discount will only be applied if the applicant is an ROA member.

Fees that are split between individual partners

Fees that are split between individual partners

The discount is only applied to those partners who are ROA members, for whatever percentage of the fee they are paying.

You can then either access the main Racing TV channel or dedicated live feed from the track your horse is running at with Racing TV Extra. Here, you can watch all the build-up from the paddock and down at the start, and continue after the race with expert analysis from Racing TV's top pundits and presenters.
