@ChelmsfordCRC

We are delighted to welcome Owners to Chelmsford City Racecourse (CCR) and trust that all our facilities meet our guests’ expectations. The racecourse sets out to be flexible and accommodating to all Owners’ requests and we will do our utmost to provide true Essex hospitality to ensure a memorable day.

We are also fully committed to prize-money at CCR and in recent years have made Executive contributions which are easily the highest average per fixture of all the All-Weather venues, and ranks third of all those flat tracks which do not stage Group 1 races. The racing surface is now in its seventh year of use since installation and has been further enhanced with £600,000 of investment since 2015.

News
We are delighted to now be able to welcome back 4 Owners per runner to Chelmsford City Racecourse (CCR). Our racedays have certainly been surreal occasions without you. Due to ongoing national and local government COVID-19 restrictions, we sadly remain unable to offer our usual raceday experience to Owners and we understand and share any frustration you may have. We will be increasing Owner numbers as soon as we are allowed to under the Government roadmap.

We continue to have a lot of re-purposed facilities at the racecourse. But our aim is to ensure you have a successful visit and enjoy seeing your horse in action, despite the current operational limitations and restrictions that we all must still adhere to.

Overview of Latest Pre-Arrival Requirements

To enable us to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place, minimise risk for Owners and prioritise the safety of all attendees, we need your assistance before you join us:

It is essential that you provide us with the name and contact details of all your attendees by no later than 4pm on the day before the race meeting. Please do this via the Racecourse PASS System - www.RCAPASS.com – a simple step-by step guide to using the system is available from the RCA Website. If you do not have access to the PASS System or need any assistance in its use, please contact the PASS Helpdesk on 01933 270333 or pass@weatherbys.co.uk.

Several new/ongoing operational measures are in place on course and include:

  • A current maximum of four Owners (or representatives) per horse, to comply with the restriction that limits social mixing between households. Owners are asked not pass their unused badges to Owners without horses competing that day or to other individuals
  • Racecourses not being able to provide their usual Hospitality at present, in line with Government’s current requirements regarding restaurants and bars
  • All Owners continuing to observe social distancing guidelines
  • Mandatory use of face coverings by everyone at all times on the racecourse both indoors and outdoors (if not eating or drinking) unless you are medically exempt.

PROTOCOLS FOR OWNERS AT $DECLARATION_RACECOURSE_NAME

You will have received information from the BHA outlining the procedures in place and the protocols required to be completed prior to you being allowed on the racecourse as an Owner. These protocols also apply to anybody else you nominate to attend with you, or representing you on the day. Please ensure you pass this information onto those individuals before they attend the raceday.

Owners on course will have access to the Amber Zone, which will be separated from raceday workers (trainers, stable staff, jockeys, officials, media etc.), who have undergone a more rigorous health screening process. For infection control purposes, no movement will be permitted between the two areas of the racecourse.

Pre-Raceday

To avoid delays and potential disappointment on the day, please do follow the below:

  • All owners must ensure that they have read and understood the Owners’ Protocols. Guidelines published
  • All Owners and those attending must complete an online education module – Covid-19 information for participants of the racing industry – prior to the raceday. This is hosted on the ROA website and will take no longer than 20 minutes. You will only need to have completed this once
  • Register all attendees through the the PASS system and submit the names of the individual(s) who will attend the racecourse by 4pm the day before racing
  • Please do not register multiple guest attendees in the same name

On Raceday

The racecourse is open to Owners from 1 hour before the first race and the arrival process can currently take a little longer than normal. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. Key considerations:
  • Confirm you have pre-registered to attend through the PASS system
  • Remember to bring some photo ID and a face covering (triple layer) with you
  • Please arrive at CCR via the main car park only ie adjacent to the nothbound A131 dual carriageway (direction Braintree). No other site access is permitted at this time.
  • Please follow the signs and stewards’ instructions upon arrival at the main entrance gates (ie once you have turned off the A131)
  • You will be directed to parking in a designated area of the car park and a steward will indicate your walking route to the Owners’ entrance
  • NB: The usual Owners’ entrance within the ticket office lobby is now being used by the NHS. Therefore, please head to the small temporary facility adjoining the ticket office for the pre-entry protocols
  • Present photo identification
  • Answer the health screen questions
  • Undertake a temperature test
  • Once you have passed all these protocols you will be issued with a coloured wristband which must worn at all times whilst on site
  • We do have to point out that any person who has not pre-registered or fails any of the outlined protocols will not be permitted entry to the racecourse
Dedicated Owners’ Area – Facilities and Food & Drink

We are pleased to be able to continue to provide a dedicated Owners’ area within the Amber Zone. For Owners who have visited before in lockdown, please note that the location of this area is no longer the Fairwood restaurant as this is being used as an NHS vaccination centre.

Once you have your wristband, please use the pedestrian route, through the tunnel under the track and into the racecourse proper. We ask that you keep left along this route in line with the signage and social distancing requirements.

You will be met at the end of the pedestrian route by a steward and directed to the “Club” facility. This re-purposed location, together with the designated trackside viewing and debrief area outside the parade ring, will be for Owners only. The big screen will be in use as normal but no betting facilities will be operating. Please also note that racecards will not be available in their usual format. Print out copies will be provided on the day.

In line with current protocols, we are only able to provide a limited, albeit expanded, food and drink offering in the Club at present. This is restricted to complimentary tea, coffee, bottled water and soft drinks as well as a canteen or takeaway-style hot dish and dessert.

Debrief Area wih Trainer/Jockey

Whilst access into pre-parade or parade rings is still not permitted by the BHA, we are pleased to enable i) pre-race viewing and ii) post-race debriefs with your trainer and jockey in a dedicated area near the winners’ enclosure. Owners will remain along the outside of the parade ring perimeter rail. Our Owners Liaison representative will show you the segregated route to this area, located within the Amber Zone. We recommend you mention this to your trainer/jockey in advance so that they remember to speak with you after the race from within the parade ring rails, across from your designated area. Owner access to the Green Zone remains strictly prohibited and social distancing guidelines should continue to be followed.

Whilst on Site – General Reminder

We have worked very hard to enable Owners to attend the racecourse and would be grateful if you would take some time to remember some of the fundamental $DECLARATION_RACECOURSE_NAME protocols:
  • All floor markings, signage, one way routes and directions from raceday personnel must be observed
  • Please observe good hand washing hygiene. Hand sanitiser will be freely available throughout the course
  • It is mandatory for everyone to wear face coverings at all times on the racecourse both indoors and outdoors (if not eating or drinking) unless you are medically exempt (verification by a healthcare professional may be required)
  • Please maintain 2 metre social distancing as per Elite sports grounds guidelines at all times
  • It is vital to remember that the Amber Zone is separate from the Green Zone and access is not allowed between the two in either direction - this is a direct consequence of the infection control protocols
Raceday at Home

For those of you unable to attend on the day you will be able to download a copy of our racecard which will be sent to you by the ROA, If your horse should win we will send a digital memento and winning photograph via your trainer. Our raceday photographer will be in attendance. Full information will be available on our website.
