Barney's successful Spring leads to windfall

ROA members Tony and Donna Cooper-Barney have demonstrated their commitment to racing’s people and horses by donating £30,000 from the prize-money earned by their horses to two of the sport’s fundamental charities, Racing Welfare and Retraining of Racehorses (RoR). 

The donation follows Jango Baie and Jingko Blue’s wins in the Racing Welfare Bowl Chase at Aintree and Bet365 Select Hurdle at Sandown respectively, reflecting the couple’s desire to support the people and horses who are so fundamental to the racing industry. 

By sharing a portion of their success, the Cooper-Barneys have highlighted the important role owners can play in helping to sustain the sport beyond the racetrack. 

Tony and Donna, who own the award-winning Pale Hall Hotel in Bala, North Wales, chose to celebrate their jump season achievements closer to home. Following the horse’s recent success, they unveiled a new racing-themed venue within the hotel, aptly named The Jockey Bar. 

Tony Cooper-Barney said: “Jingko Blue and Jango Baie have given Donna and I some unforgettable days this last season, and we felt it was important to use part of that success to support two charities that make such a valuable contribution to the British racing. Racing Welfare and Retraining of Racehorses play a vital role in looking after the people and horses that are at the heart of our sport, and we’re delighted to be able to give something back. 

 “Ownership is about much more than what happens on the racecourse. We all have a responsibility to support the long-term well-being of the sport and those involved in it. If our contribution encourages others to consider supporting these charities, then that would be a wonderful outcome.”
