Protecting British racing and Ownership
Dear participant,
As you may be aware, British racing is facing a triple whammy of political threats headlined by a new Treasury proposal that would see betting on racing subject to the same level of taxation as gambling on online casino games.
While the Treasury’s consultation window closes on 21st July, decisions will ultimately be made on the proposal in the Autumn ahead of the Budget, so we have a number of months to make the voice of the industry heard in the heart of Government.
The BHA is leading an industry campaign to push back against this proposal and you – and everyone in racing – can play your part in putting pressure on the Government in the coming months by raising the issue with your local MP.
As such, the BHA has produced a template letter and briefing paper for you to send to your local MP asking them to back British racing and #AxeTheRacingTax.
If you don’t know who your MP is and/or you don’t know their email address, it’s easy to find out. You just need to enter your postcode here:
Find your MP - MPs and Lords - UK Parliament.
Once you’ve entered your postcode you’ll be taken to a page with your MP’s Parliamentary email address.
It is vital that your letter is personalised to you/your business, so please ensure you fill in the blanks (e.g. number of employees, name of constituency etc.) or delete them, rather than sending an incomplete letter.
It will help our cause significantly if your staff, your suppliers and any other contacts in the constituency also send your version of the letter to their MP. They will also have to personalise the letter so it is clear it hasn’t come from you.
We also ask that you and your staff contact your local MP to seek an urgent meeting with him/her at their constituency office as soon as possible.
The more letters we can get to MPs and the more meetings we can have with them the more likely they are to take note of the campaign and make the case for racing to No10 and the Treasury.
If you have any questions or need further clarification, please get in touch with us in the first instance and we can raise it with the BHA if required.
Best wishes,
The ROA Team
