RoR Racing to Cricket - new auction lot revealed
Twelve lots will be auctioned as part of Retraining of Racehorses’ big fundraising RoR Racing to Cricket event at Wormsley Cricket Ground on Sunday 3rd September, where eight racing teams will do battle to win the RoR Racing to Cricket trophy. The live auction led by charity auctioneer Martin Pope will be at 1.30pm but bids in advance can be made by 6pm on Saturday 2nd September by email to [email protected]
Auction Lots, which have been donated by trainers, owners and RoR supporters, include a money can’t buy Directors’ Box experience for Chelsea FC vs Brighton & Hove’s match in December at Stamford Bridge, donated by Chelsea Vice-President and racehorse owner Alan Spence; and a pair of tickets for the 2024 cinch Tennis Championships with exclusive admission to the Members Enclosure at the Queen’s Club has been donated by owner Chris Wright CBE.
Racing fans will also have the chance to bid for a fully catered box for up to fourteen guests at Aintree on 29th October 2023 donated by Robert Waley-Cohen. There is also a trip for four people to the renowned Punchestown Festival in May 2024 with a tour of the Irish National Stud and overnight stay at The Club provided by Goffs; and a two night stay is offered in the luxury B&B Aylworth Manor in the Cotswolds along with tickets and hospitality for two at the November Meeting at Cheltenham on Sunday 19 November 2023, donated by Mr and Mrs J Ireland and Cheltenham Racecourse.
Plus, don’t miss the unique chance to enjoy the company of one of racing’s most popular TV presenters and personalities, former jockey Luke Harvey, as you and a friend go behind the scenes with Luke during his working day broadcasting at a live televised race meeting.
Also going under the auctioneer’s hammer will be the opportunity to book a holiday of a lifetime with Nicola Dack of the Travel Counsellors and £4,000 worth of holiday vouchers. Closer to home, a week’s stay is up for auction at Southdown Barns, located in the National Trust coastal hills of Devon accommodating up to twelve guests, donated by Anita Wigan. For the wine connoisseurs, Corney & Barrow has offered with the Tack Room a wine tasting event for up to twenty people at the National Horseracing Museum in Newmarket.
Other auction lots at the RoR Racing to Cricket fundraising day and sure to appeal to thoroughbred breeders are three stallion nominations. A star nomination donated by Bjorn Nielsen to seven-time Gr.1 winner Stradivarius, this striking son of sire of sires Sea The Stars covered 120 mares in his first book in 2023 standing at The National Stud. One to the son of Acclamation, Aclaim, the sire of Gr.1 1,000 Guineas winner Cachet from his first-crop, standing at Manton Stud and donated by Jayne McGivern; plus a nomination from Whitsbury Manor Stud to Champion 3yo sprinter by Lope De Vega, Lope Y Fernandez, who has had exceptional first books of mares standing at The National Stud.
Now in its fourth year, the day’s cricket action will be enjoyed by over 200 guests attending the fundraising day at the private estate of the Getty family. Teams playing represent the yards of Charlie Hills, Richard Hannon, Ben Pauling, Jack Channon, Warren Greatrex, Windmill Racing and the two-time tournament winning team from Nicky Henderson’s Seven Barrows. In addition, the day’s principal sponsor and last year’s runners-up Irwin Mitchell will field a team.
