Membership Terms and Conditions

Our Contract

1.1 These Terms outline the contract between the Racehorse Owners Association Limited ("We") and its Members ("You").

1.2 By becoming a Member, You agree to these Terms and Our Privacy Policy.

1.3 Membership is subject to these Terms, which form a binding contract. If You disagree, You must not join or must withdraw as outlined in clause 7.1.

1.4 We may amend these Terms at any time without prior notice. Changes will be binding.

1.5 These Terms are governed by English law.

 

Definitions

2.1 The ROA is a private limited company registered in England and Wales.

2.2 Definitions include:

  • "Benefits": Membership packages listed on the Website.
  • "BHA": British Horseracing Authority Limited.
  • "Member": The person holding the Membership.
  • "Membership": ROA’s membership packages.
  • "Membership Fee": Fees payable to ROA.
  • "Membership Period": Ongoing from payment date.
  • "Racing Partnership": Defined by BHA rules.
  • "Racehorse": Registered horse for racing.
  • "Website": ROA’s official website.

2.3 Pronouns include relevant first-person terms.

 

Membership

3.1 Apply online, by phone, by post, or direct debit.

3.2 Membership types: Single, Joint, Company, Primary, Racegoers Club.

3.3 Membership is valid for an ongoing period with yearly subscriptions.

3.4 Membership activates upon acceptance of payment.

3.5 Open to all eligible persons, subject to ROA’s discretion.

3.6 Membership is personal and non-transferable.

3.7 Members should read and be aware of the Articles of Association.

 

Benefits

4.1 Members are entitled to listed Benefits.

4.2 Benefits cease upon Membership termination or non-payment.

4.3 Contracts for third-party Benefits are between the Member and the provider.

4.4 Eligibility for the Racecourse Badge Scheme requires:

  • Valid Membership
  • Registration as a Racehorse owner with Weatherbys, or
  • Shareholder via a registered Racing Syndicate or Club

4.5 The Racecourse Badge Scheme is subject to separate terms.

4.6 ROA sponsorship scheme eligibility requires:

  • Registered Racing Partnership (all partners are Members), or
  • Sole ownership by Members, or
  • Registered Syndicate or Racing Club (all Syndicate/Club managers are Members).

 

4.7 Sponsored Racehorses must display the appropriate Tote logos.

4.8 The ROA sponsorship scheme is subject to separate terms.

 

Price and Payment

5.1 Single and Company Membership: £280.00/year (inc VAT).

5.2 Joint Membership: £470.00/year (inc VAT).

5.3 Primary Membership: £0.00 per year.

5.4 Racegoers Club Single Membership: £55.00 per year (inc VAT).

5.5 Racegoers Club Joint Membership: £80.00 per year (inc VAT).

5.6 ROA employees are exempt from fees.

5.7 Fees are subject to VAT.

5.8 Payments by cash, BACS, cheque, credit, or debit card. Direct debits renew automatically unless terminated.

5.9 Members will be notified of fee increases and may refuse them, resulting in Membership termination.

 

Eligibility and Termination

6.1 Eligibility requires:

• No subsisting bans from the Sport,

• No previous Membership termination by ROA within the last 12 months.

6.2 ROA may terminate or suspend Membership for:

• Inaccurate application information,

• Subsisting bans,

• BHA Rules breach,

• Unpaid fees,

• Non-compliance with these Terms.

 

Cancellation and Refunds

7.1 Membership is valid for the specified period but can be cancelled anytime.

7.2 Cancel within 30 days for a full refund minus a £60.00 admin charge.

7.3 Refunds are available for:

• Refused fee increases,

• Variations to Terms imposed by ROA.

7.4 Refunds processed within 14 days via the original payment method or by bank transfer.

7.5 No refunds for terminated or suspended Memberships under clause 6.2.

 

Renewals

8.1 Direct debit automatically renew Membership.

8.2 Notify ROA 30 days prior to renewal date if you do not wish to renew.

8.3 Other payment methods will prompt ROA to contact You before renewal.

8.4 Renew by notifying ROA and paying the renewal fee.

 

Liability

9.1 ROA excludes liability for third-party Benefits.

9.2 No liability for indirect or consequential losses.

9.3 Maximum liability limited to Membership Fee paid in the past 12 months.

9.4 ROA’s liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence is not excluded.

 

Competitions

10.1 Competitions are subject to separate terms.

 

Communications and Marketing

11.1 Essential communications will be sent regardless of marketing preferences.

11.2 Examples include transaction notifications, membership renewals, financial statements, and member news.

11.3 Email is the primary communication method; post or phone used if necessary.

 

General

12.1 Notices must be in writing (including email).

12.2 Invalid provisions will be modified or severed, not affecting remaining terms.

12.3 No waiver of rights by ROA for delayed enforcement.

12.4 Logo use by members requires ROA permission.

12.5 Queries or complaints can be directed to [email protected].

12.6 Events are subject to separate terms.
