Fakenham Racecourse prize money commitment and new bonus races
Fakenham start racing again on 16 October and have committed to provide £22,000 in executive contribution per raceday.
This figure is 75% of the prize money contribution they made in pre-Covid times, and when it is added to Horse Racing Betting Levy Board and British Horseracing Authority grants, it means each race meeting will offer in excess of £60,000 for a six or seven race card. Furthermore, Fakenham (along with Newton Abbot) will continue to charge zero entry fees to owners for all races.
From October onwards, Fakenham will offer two pre-selected handicap races on each day as ‘Double Up Bonus Races’. If the winning horse in each bonus race, on the same day, is trained by the same trainer then the winning owner of each race will get an extra £2,000 added to their prize-money. It is hoped this will encourage more entries into the races.
From a raceday experience perspective, things will be slightly different as the Cool Roxy Owners’ and Trainers’ Bar will be an overflow male jockeys’ changing room and the Chairman’s lunchroom will be the stewards’ room.
Owners, having confirmed their attendance in advance via PASS, will enter the racecourse from the entrance which can be found using the postcode NR21 7NY and will be entertained in the parade ring bar that immediately overlooks the parade ring. Owners will be able to view the parade ring, speak to trainers and jockeys in a designated area, watch the races on a big screen and park their car right next to the parade ring bar.
