WHAT?
The RCA Summer Jumps Championship is a points-based competition for jockeys, trainers and owners competing in summer jumps racing.
WHY?
Summer jump racing is integral to the fixture list of British horseracing, providing opportunities for hundreds of horses throughout the summer months at some of the country’s most picturesque racecourses.
The aim of the RCA Summer Jumps Championship is to provide a clear and recognisable narrative for jump racing across this period, while also seeking to maintain the momentum from a positive set of race programme metrics in 2024. A further aim is to celebrate the fantastic summer of sport provided by summer jumps and the venues which host it.
17 racecourses from Perth to Newton Abbot offer a wonderful day out to thousands of racegoers each year, with many of the fixtures a seasonal highlight within their locality.
WHEN?
The RCA Summer Jumps Championship will begin at Cartmel on Saturday 24th May 2025 and will end on Friday 19th September 2025 at Newton Abbot, covering 82 jump fixtures throughout the summer.
Following each fixture, you can visit the Championship hub here for the latest standings in the Championship.
HOW?
The format for the RCA Summer Jumps Championship works on a points-based system across four categories:
- Summer Jumps Champion Jockey
- Summer Jumps Champion Trainer
- Summer Jumps Champion Owner
- Small Summer Jumps Champion Trainer (for Trainers who had 30 winners or less in the traditional British Jumps Trainers Championship).
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Race Points will be accumulated depending on finishing positions and field size for each race. The breakdown for the points awarded in the RCA Summer Jumps Championship will look like this:
- For races with 5 or less runners, 1 st place receives five points
- For races with 6 and 7 runners, 1 st place receives five points and 2nd place receives three points
- For races with 8 or more runners, 1st place receives 10 points, 2nd place receives five points and 3rd place receives two points
The overall prize will be £7,500 for each category making the total prize pot £30,000 in 2025. The winners of the Champion Jockey and Owner categories will be given the choice to claim the winnings or donate to a racing charity of their choice. For the Champion Trainer and Small Summer Jumps Champion Trainer categories, the prize money will be distributed amongst stable staff at the winning yard.
WHO?
Overall, the RCA Summer Jump Championship will cover 82 jump fixtures between May-September 2025 and will take place at 17 individual racecourses. Here is the list of racecourses who will be involved along with the full set of dates:
