Write to your Member of Senedd

21 June 2026

Letter from the BHA:

Dear Owner

As part of the BHA’s programme of outreach and engagement with MSs following the Senedd election last month, they have drafted a template letter (below) for you to please send to your six representatives in Cardiff (a new electoral system was used for the first time following the passing of the Senedd Reform Act. This means that the Senedd now has 96 members from 16 six-member constituencies.)

You are able to find your six MSs (and their email address by then clicking on their profile) by inserting your postcode here: Find a Member Search. This will also help you fill in one of the gaps in the template letter by telling you the name of your new constituency.

The three Welsh courses have already contacted their respective MSs, while the BHA corporate affairs team will shortly be in touch with all 96 MSs.

The more we can make the voice of racing heard in the Senedd the better, so we are extremely grateful for your support.

If you have any questions, please let the BHA know - contact Henry Dixon Clegg on [email protected]

There are two ways to access the suggested template:

Dear XX,

I would like to congratulate you on being elected as Senedd Member for XX. As a racehorse owner, who lives in your constituency, I hope you will give your wholehearted support to horseracing in Wales.

Welsh Racing is part of the world-leading British racing industry, worth £4.1bn annually to the UK economy and underpinned by exceptional standards of animal health and welfare. It plays a key role in Wales’s sporting and cultural fabric, with races such as The Welsh Grand National built on hundreds of years of history.

Last year, over 135,000 racegoers attended the three racecourses in Wales – Bangor-On-Dee, Chepstow and Ffos Las – providing a premium leisure activity for the Welsh public. As the country’s third-largest spectator sport, horseracing is a significant employer, supporting hundreds of jobs in racing businesses and associated supply chains in Wales. There are 23 other training yards in Wales and 47 stud farms, making racing a vital contributor to the rural economy specifically and the wider economy too.

I am fortunate to own [insert number] racehorse(s) trained by [insert trainer name] in [insert location]. The substantial investment that I and other owners make in the sport supports not just the trainer and their staff, but also local farriers, vets, and feed merchants; indeed, modelling has indicated that every 20 horses in training brings a £1m benefit to economy.

I would be delighted to invite you to [insert name of trainer]’s yard so that you can see for yourself the contribution horseracing makes to the Welsh economy, as well as the high standards of care that is providing to my horses. If this is of interest, please do let me know.

Congratulations again on your election.

Yours sincerely,

XX.
